Job Summary:
The Helper to Skilled Worker assists skilled tradespeople (e.g., electricians, carpenters, mechanics, welders, etc.) in performing tasks efficiently and safely. This role involves hands-on support, tool and material handling, and learning trade-specific skills under supervision. The ideal candidate is physically fit, eager to learn, and follows instructions carefully.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assistance to Skilled Workers:
- Support skilled workers (e.g., technicians, artisans) in daily tasks.
- Hand tools, materials, and equipment to tradespeople as needed.
- Hold, lift, or position materials during installations, repairs, or construction.
- Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
- Ensure tools and machinery are clean, organized, and in working condition.
- Transport tools/supplies to and from worksites.
- Worksite Preparation:
- Set up work areas (e.g., scaffolding, barriers, safety signs).
- Clean worksites by removing debris, waste, or hazards.
- Learning and Development:
- Observe and learn trade techniques under guidance.
- Assist with measurements, cuts, or basic installations as skills improve.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow OSHA/site safety protocols and wear PPE (helmets, gloves, etc.).
- Report hazards or incidents to supervisors immediately.
- Other Duties:
- Run errands (e.g., purchasing supplies, delivering materials).
- Perform manual labor (digging, carrying heavy loads, etc.) as required.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training a plus.
- Experience: Prior helper/apprentice experience preferred but not mandatory.
- Physical Ability: Capable of lifting 50+ lbs, standing for long hours, and working in varied conditions (heat/cold, heights, etc.).
- Technical Skills: Basic tool familiarity (hammers, drills, saws) is advantageous.
- Soft Skills: Dependable, teamwork-oriented, and willing to take direction.
