1. Job Purpose Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Mechanical Estimation Engineer with proven GCC experience. The primary purpose of this role is to prepare accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates for large-scale and complex Mechanical (HVAC & Plumbing) construction projects. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of construction methodologies, local market costs, and be proficient in transforming construction drawings and specifications into a definitive Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and pricing model.
2. Key Responsibilities & Duties
A. Tender Analysis & Preparation:
- Conduct a thorough review of tender documents, including Invitations to Tender (ITT), drawings, specifications, and contract conditions to understand the full project scope.
- Identify potential risks, ambiguities, and qualifications at the tender stage.
- Attend pre-tender meetings and site visits to gather essential information.
B. Quantity Take-Off & BOQ Preparation:
- Perform a detailed and accurate take-off of quantities for all HVAC (Ducting, Chilled Water Piping, Equipment, Insulation) and Plumbing (Sanitary, Water Supply, Drainage, GRP) systems from IFC (Issued for Construction) drawings.
- Prepare a comprehensive and well-structured Bill of Quantities (BOQ) in accordance with project specifications and standard measurement methods (e.g., POMI).
- Identify and list all materials, equipment, and labor components required for the project.
C. Cost Estimation & Pricing:
- Source and obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, equipment, and specialized services within the GCC region.
- Analyze supplier quotes for compliance with specifications and commercial competitiveness.
- Apply accurate unit rates for labor, materials, and equipment, factoring in productivity rates, wastage, and local market conditions.
- Calculate direct costs, indirect costs (overheads), and profit margins to build a final tender price.
D. Proposal Development & Submission:
- Collaborate with the Electrical Estimation team and other departments to ensure a coordinated MEP tender submission.
- Prepare a clear and concise technical and commercial proposal, including clarifications, assumptions, and exclusions.
- Compile all necessary documentation for the final tender submission within the strict deadline.
E. Post-Tender Activities:
- Participate in post-tender clarification meetings with clients and consultants.
- Assist in the handover of the awarded project to the execution team, explaining the estimate's basis and key commercial assumptions.
3. Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-4 years of proven experience in Mechanical (HVAC & Plumbing) estimation, specifically within the GCC construction industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert in reading and interpreting architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
- High Proficiency in performing quantity take-offs using software such as AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or specialized take-off tools.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel for building complex estimation models and BOQs.
- Experience with estimation software (e.g., Candy, CCS) is a strong advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems (VRF, Chillers, FAHU, FCU), plumbing systems, and relevant international codes (ASHRAE, IPC, etc.).
