Lifting Engineer
Job Summary:
The Lifting Engineer is a critical technical authority responsible for the planning, design, and supervision of all lifting operations. This role ensures that all lifts are meticulously planned, risk-assessed, and executed in full compliance with project specifications, company procedures, and Qatari legal and safety standards (including MMUP and QCS 2014).
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and approve comprehensive lift plans for routine, complex, and critical lifts, including method statements, risk assessments, and lift configuration drawings.
- Calculate all load weights, centers of gravity, and select appropriate lifting gear and equipment.
- Perform ground bearing pressure calculations and specify necessary ground preparation/matting for crane setups.
- Liaise with clients, project managers, and site supervisors to ensure lift plans are understood and adhered to.
- Conduct technical reviews of crane and lifting equipment certifications to ensure they are valid and suitable for the task.
- Provide on-site technical supervision and approval for complex lifting operations.
- Ensure all lifting operations comply with relevant international standards (e.g., BS 7121, LOLER) and local Qatari regulations.
- Investigate any lifting incidents or near-misses and implement corrective actions.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in lifting operations within the oil & gas, construction, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Must be locally available in Qatar with a valid QID.
- Professional certification in Lifting Engineering (e.g., LEEA) is highly desirable.
- Proven experience in developing lift plans using specialized software (e.g., AutoCAD, Crane Simulation Software).
- In-depth knowledge of crane capabilities, rigging practices, and load dynamics.
