Overview:
A Dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions related to the skin, hair, nails, and mucous membranes. They manage over 3,000 different diseases, including skin cancer, eczema, acne, psoriasis, and infectious skin diseases, and also perform cosmetic procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose skin conditions through physical examination, patient history, and diagnostic procedures like biopsies.
- Perform medical dermatology, treating conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, and skin infections.
- Conduct skin cancer screenings and surgically remove cancerous or pre-cancerous lesions (e.g., Mohs surgery).
- Perform surgical procedures for benign and malignant growths, cysts, and warts.
- Administer cosmetic treatments, including Botox, fillers, chemical peels, and laser therapy.
- Prescribe topical and oral medications, such as antibiotics, retinoids, and immunosuppressants.
- Manage complex medical conditions with skin manifestations, such as autoimmune diseases.
- Educate patients on skin cancer prevention and proper skin care regimens.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
- Completion of a dermatology residency program.
- Board certification in Dermatology.
- Valid state medical license.
- Dexterity and precision for performing surgical procedures.
- Strong visual acuity and diagnostic skills.
- Excellent communication skills to discuss sensitive issues with patients.
