Permit Applicant - Electrical
Job Summary:
The Permit Applicant - Electrical is a specialized safety role responsible for the application, and often the implementation, of the Permit to Work (PTW) system for all electrical tasks. This role is critical for ensuring that all electrical work is carried out safely under controlled conditions, with all potential hazards identified and mitigated through proper isolation, locking, and tagging procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Permit Application: Prepare, submit, and obtain authorization for all types of work permits (e.g., Hot Work, Cold Work, Electrical Isolation) required for electrical activities, ensuring all details are accurately described.
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA): Conduct or validate JHA for electrical tasks, identifying risks such as arc flash, electrocution, and shock, and specifying necessary control measures.
- Site Preparation & Verification: Ensure the work site is prepared according to the permit requirements. Verify that all energy sources are safely isolated, locked, and tagged out (LOTO) before work commences.
- Coordination: Liaise with the Area Authority (Permit Issuer) and the Performing Authority (work team) to ensure a clear understanding of the scope, hazards, and safety precautions.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all personnel involved in the electrical work are competent, possess the required qualifications, and are using appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and tools.
- Permit Closure: Monitor the work and ensure the permit is closed out correctly upon job completion, confirming that the site is left in a safe and tidy condition.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related trade qualification (e.g., Electrician).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical maintenance or operations, with a strong focus on safety.
- Certified training in Permit to Work systems, Lockout-Tagout (LOTO), and Electrical Safety (e.g., NFPA 70E).
- Thorough understanding of electrical systems, hazards, and safe work practices.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong communication skills.
