Lead Electrical Engineer – Sewerage Systems

We are seeking an exceptional Lead Electrical Engineer to join our team in Abu Dhabi, contributing to the design and delivery of critical sewerage infrastructure.
Position Summary
As the Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be the technical authority for all electrical engineering aspects of major sewerage system projects. You will lead the design, specification, and implementation of medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency. Your role is pivotal in guiding a team of engineers and coordinating with other disciplines to ensure seamless project execution from conception through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Design:
- Lead and be responsible for the complete electrical design of large-scale sewerage systems, including pumping stations, treatment plants, and associated infrastructure.
- Develop detailed designs for MV (up to 33kV) and LV power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), standby power systems (generators/UPS), and lighting/protection systems.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical specifications, datasheets, SLDs, load schedules, cable sizing, and equipment layouts.
- Ensure all designs comply with project specifications, Abu Dhabi and UAE regulations, and international standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE, BS, NEC).
- Project Management & Execution:
- Act as the electrical discipline lead on projects, managing budget, schedule, and quality of deliverables.
- Coordinate closely with civil, mechanical, instrumentation, and process teams to ensure integrated design solutions.
- Lead technical meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Compliance & Standards:
- Ensure all work adheres to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protocols.
- Implement quality assurance and control procedures for all electrical engineering activities.
- Stay updated with the latest electrical codes, technologies, and best practices in the water/wastewater sector.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship:
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of electrical engineers and designers.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Conduct design reviews and provide expert technical guidance.
- Procurement & Construction Support:
- Provide technical input during the procurement process, including vendor evaluation, bid review, and factory acceptance tests (FAT).
- Offer support during the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning phases, resolving site queries and ensuring design intent is achieved.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
- Certification: Must be a professionally qualified engineer (e.g., Chartered Engineer, P.E., or equivalent membership with IEEE or a recognized institution).
- Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in electrical engineering design.
- At least 5 recent years in a lead role, specifically designing electrical systems for large-scale water/wastewater, sewerage, or similar utility projects.
- Proven track record in the Gulf region (particularly UAE) is highly desirable, with knowledge of local authority regulations (e.g., ADDC, ADWEA, DEWA).
- Technical Proficiency:
- Expert-level knowledge of MV/LV distribution, protection relay coordination, earthing/lightning systems, and hazardous area classification.
- Proficiency in engineering software (e.g., ETAP, Dialux, AutoCAD, BIM/Revit).
- Strong understanding of construction methodologies and commissioning procedures.
