About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Lead ICA Engineer to join our dynamic team in Abu Dhabi. You will play a pivotal role in leading the design, specification, and implementation of cutting-edge instrumentation, control, and automation systems for critical, large-scale sewerage infrastructure projects. This position requires a strategic leader who can ensure the highest standards of technical excellence, reliability, and innovation in complex wastewater networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Leadership & Design:
- Lead the end-to-end ICA design for major sewerage collection systems, pumping stations, and related wastewater infrastructure.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, datasheets, P&IDs, control philosophies, functional design specifications (FDS), and network architecture drawings.
- Design and specify instruments (flow, level, pressure, quality analyzers), PLC/SCADA systems, RTUs, communication networks (fiber optic, radio, industrial Ethernet), and control panels.
- Ensure all designs comply with Abu Dhabi and international standards (e.g., ADWEA, ISO, IEC, IEEE) and project-specific requirements.
- Project Management & Oversight:
- Serve as the ICA discipline lead on large-scale projects, managing budgets, schedules, and resources.
- Oversee the entire project lifecycle from conceptual and detailed design through to FAT, SAT, commissioning, and final handover.
- Ensure all ICA deliverables are of the highest quality, on time, and within budget.
- Team Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary technical authority for ICA, collaborating seamlessly with multidisciplinary teams (civil, mechanical, electrical, process engineers).
- Interface with clients, consultants, contractors, and vendors to clarify requirements, resolve technical issues, and ensure project objectives are met.
- Lead design reviews, HAZOP studies, and risk assessment workshops.
- System Integration & Compliance:
- Develop and implement robust SCADA and control strategies for remote monitoring and efficient operation of sewerage networks.
- Ensure cyber-security best practices are integrated into all control and communication systems.
- Oversee system integration, testing, and validation to guarantee performance and reliability.
- Documentation & Quality Assurance:
- Prepare, review, and approve all technical documentation, including reports, drawings, manuals, and as-built records.
- Maintain rigorous verification and validation protocols throughout the project.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers within the ICA team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering (with ICA specialization), or a directly related field.
- Professional Certification: Chartered Engineer status or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., IET, IEEE, ISA).
- Experience:
- A minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in the design, engineering, and implementation of ICA systems.
- Must have at least 5 years of recent, demonstrable experience specifically leading the ICA design for large-scale sewerage or water/wastewater projects in the UAE or Gulf region, working under similar constraints and standards.
- Proven track record in handling the full project cycle for multi-million dollar infrastructure projects.
Essential Skills & Competencies
- Expert Technical Knowledge: Deep expertise in ICA hardware, software, SCADA platforms (e.g., Siemens, Schneider, Rockwell), industrial networks, and telemetry systems for water/wastewater applications.
- Standards & Regulations: In-depth knowledge of ADWEA, DEWA, or similar utility standards, as well as IEC 61131, ISA, and cybersecurity standards (e.g., IEC 62443).
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead engineering teams, manage complex projects, and make critical technical decisions.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative and practical solutions.
- Communication: Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and present to stakeholders at all levels.
