Role Objective:
We are seeking an experienced and driven M&E Project Manager to take full responsibility for the planning, coordination, and successful delivery of large-scale Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) packages. The ideal candidate will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, to the highest quality and safety standards, while effectively leading multidisciplinary teams and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Project Planning & Execution:
- Develop and implement comprehensive project execution plans, schedules, and budgets for M&E packages.
- Lead all phases from tender/award through design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Conduct rigorous risk management, identifying potential issues and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
2. Technical Leadership & Coordination:
- Act as the primary technical authority for all M&E systems (HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Electrical Distribution, BMS, Lighting, etc.).
- Coordinate seamlessly with civil/structural teams, architects, client representatives, and internal quantity surveyors.
- Review and approve design drawings, method statements, technical submittals, and procurement schedules.
- Ensure all work complies with German regulations (DIN/VDE), building codes, and project specifications.
3. Financial & Commercial Management:
- Manage the project P&L, controlling costs, forecasting, and reporting on financial performance.
- Oversee the valuation process, variations, and final account agreement in collaboration with the commercial team.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier contracts, including procurement, performance evaluation, and payments.
4. Team & Site Management:
- Lead, mentor, and motivate on-site M&E teams, including supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Chair regular progress, coordination, and safety meetings.
- Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, promoting a zero-accident culture.
5. Quality & Compliance:
- Implement and enforce quality assurance/control procedures to ensure the highest installation standards.
- Manage the inspection, testing, and commissioning process, ensuring timely snagging and defect resolution.
6. Reporting & Communication:
- Provide clear and regular reporting to senior management and the client on project status, KPIs, risks, and milestones.
- Serve as the main point of contact for the client on all project matters, building and maintaining a trusted partnership.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of proven experience in managing large-scale M&E projects (€10M+ value) in Germany.
- In-depth knowledge of German construction law (VOB), technical standards (DIN, VDE), and planning/building regulations.
- Proven track record in budget control, schedule management, and successful project delivery.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing direct reports and subcontractor teams.
- Fluent in German (C1 level minimum) and professional proficiency in English.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Project, AutoCAD Viewer, and MS Office Suite.
- Highly Desirable:
- Master’s degree or PM certification (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2).
- Experience in Data Centre, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, or Heavy Industrial projects.
- Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modelling) Level 2+ processes and common data environments (CDE).
