Position Summary
The Area Sales Manager is responsible for managing sales operations within a defined geographic area, driving revenue growth, expanding market share, and leading a team of sales executives or representatives. The role involves developing sales strategies, building strong customer relationships, monitoring performance, and ensuring achievement of sales targets across the assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Target Achievement
- Achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for the assigned area.
- Develop and implement effective sales plans to maximize revenue growth.
- Monitor sales performance and take corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure consistent growth in market share and customer base.
Team Management
- Supervise, train, and motivate a team of sales executives/representatives.
- Set individual targets and monitor team performance regularly.
- Conduct field visits, joint calls, and performance reviews with team members.
- Support skill development and ensure high productivity within the team.
Business Development
- Identify new business opportunities within the assigned territory.
- Expand distribution channels and strengthen market presence.
- Develop relationships with key clients, distributors, and retailers.
- Promote new products and execute marketing and promotional activities.
Customer Relationship Management
- Maintain strong relationships with existing customers and key accounts.
- Address customer inquiries, complaints, and service issues promptly.

Market Analysis & Strategy
- Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and pricing strategies.
- Provide insights and feedback to senior management.

Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.
- Maintain accurate records of sales performance, pipeline, and forecasts.
- Update CRM systems with customer and sales data.
- Report market feedback and competitor analysis to management.
Distribution & Channel Management
- Manage distributors, wholesalers, and retail networks in the assigned area.
- Ensure product availability and visibility in the market.
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate with supply chain teams.
- Support execution of promotional campaigns and trade schemes.
Compliance & Execution
- Ensure adherence to company policies, pricing guidelines, and credit terms.
- Monitor collections and ensure timely payment recovery.
- Support implementation of sales processes and operational standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, or related field.
- MBA is an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3–7 years of experience in sales, with at least 1–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience in FMCG, retail, pharmaceuticals, electronics, or related industries preferred.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing teams.
