JOB FUNCTION: Operates dynamic balancing machine to locate points of imbalance on parts such as crushers, turbines, spindles, impellers, armatures, rotors and flywheels; balances parts by removing excess metal, using hand tools and power tools, or adding metal using welding equipment
Position Type: Full-Time
QUALIFICATION: Qualified Artisan with minimum 5 years’ experience or N3 Mechanical Engineering
EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years’ experience in Dynamic and Static Balancing

- Ability to use mechanical measuring equipment (digital and analogue).
- Ability to use hydraulic, pneumatic and power tools.
1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.1. Adhere to and comply with the requirements and procedures of the following SHEQ Management systems:
1.1 (a) ISO9001 - Quality Management System.
1.1 (b) ISO14001 – Environmental Management System.
1.1 (c) ISO45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management System.
1.2. Ensure compliance with the Environmental Responsibilities policy (HR_0042).
1.3. Assist the Department Foreman and Manager to comply with all applicable LHM quality, health, safety and environmental rules and procedures.
1.4. Ensure that housekeeping is of a high standard at all times in areas of your workspace.
1.5. Ensure adherence to all relevant company policies, procedures and limits of authority.
1.6. Operates dynamic balance machine to locate points of imbalance on parts.
1.7. Removing excess metal using hand tools and power tools, or adding metal using welding equipment.
1.8. Moves controls of machine to locate points of imbalance indicated by light beam from strobe lamp on identification marks of work piece.
1.9. Calculates amount of weight to be added to or removed from work-piece, or changes size and location of test weight until zero reading is indicated on ammeter.
1.10. During the balancing process all welded weights must be inspected / finalized by a Welder.
1.11. Drills, grinds, chips or files metal from heavy side, or welds, solders or rivets metal pieces to light-side to correct imbalance, using power drills and grinders, hand-file and welding equipment.
1.12. Ensure that the balancing machines’ calibration status is within the specified period.
1.13. Once the job has been balanced, it will be marked with a line, using engineering marking blue spray.
1.14. Ensure that all relevant data is recorded on the balancing certificate, or where relevant, a computer generated certificate (print) must be printed; and this must be within the requirements of the specified ISO balancing grade.
2. AUTHORITIES
2.1. To inspect and check if the balancing machine is working every morning prior to use (check-list is issued)
2.2. Sign for material to be used on balancing
2.3. Get approval from manager for certain materials
2.4. Confirm / approve that the rotated equipment has been balanced.
