You will be responsible for remodeling, repairing, and maintaining items pertaining to the carpentry trade. This includes but is not limited to wooden trim, doors, sashes, partitions, cabinet shelving and floors of the Medical Center Buildings.
Essential Job Functions
- Ensuring safety of patients, visitors, and other hospital employees. Keeping working areas neat, clean and safe.
- Communicating with patients, visitors, and other hospital employees with tact and courtesy.
- Offering assistance to patients and visitors requiring special assistance.
- Maintaining patient’s rights to privacy.
- Following through on all assigned duties until completion.
- Maintaining personnel appearance in accordance with Departmental Policy on dress and uniform.
- Completing departmental required paperwork in timely and eligible fashion.
- Operating power woodworking equipment such as a saw, planer, drill, shaper, or sander to cut and shape components to fabricate or repair wooden items or portions of buildings.
- Using hand tools for on scene work or for finish work.
- Working from blueprints or sketches, constructing, remodeling, finishing and repairing wooden portions of the Medical Center such as trim, doors, sashes, partitions, floors, and ceiling tiles.
- Installing locks on doors.
- Removing window sashes.
- Performing minor maintenance on carpentry equipment.
- Requisitioning materials and supplies as needed.
- Performing other duties as requested by senior management.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate.
- Successful completion of recognized apprentice program in carpentry.
- Must have knowledge of working properties of different varieties of woods, plastic, Formica, tile, metal trim and other related materials common to the trade.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and communicate with others by writing.
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of power and hand equipment used on the job.
- Must be able to work from ladders and scaffolds.
- Must be physically capable of performing the work expected in an efficient manner.
- Must have knowledge of safety rules, practices and equipment.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with other people.
- Must be capable of strenuous physical activity.

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
