Job Description: Credit Control Manager

The Credit Control Manager will be responsible for managing the organization's credit control and accounts receivable function, ensuring timely collection of outstanding receivables and effective credit risk management. The role will oversee customer credit assessments, credit limits, collections, account reconciliations, overdue monitoring, and debt recovery.
The position will work closely with Sales, Finance, Customer Service, and senior management to maintain healthy cash flow, minimize bad debts, and establish effective credit management practices.

Manage the end-to-end credit control and accounts receivable function.
Monitor customer outstanding balances, ageing, overdue accounts, and collection status.
Establish effective collection strategies to ensure timely customer payments.
Review daily/weekly receivables reports and prioritize collection activities.
Follow up with customers regarding overdue invoices and payment commitments.
Ensure accurate allocation and reconciliation of customer receipts.
Investigate and resolve outstanding account discrepancies.

Assess the creditworthiness of new and existing customers.
Review customer financial information, payment history, credit reports, and business risk.
Recommend appropriate credit limits and payment terms.
Monitor customer credit exposure and identify potential credit risks.
Recommend credit holds, revised credit limits, or changes in payment terms where necessary.
Establish and maintain credit control policies and procedures.
Conduct periodic reviews of customer credit limits and risk classifications.

Develop and implement structured collection plans for overdue accounts.
Manage escalated and high-value outstanding accounts.
Negotiate payment plans and settlements within approved authority.
Coordinate with Sales and Account Management teams to resolve collection issues.
Escalate seriously overdue or high-risk accounts to senior management.
Coordinate with legal teams or external agencies for difficult debt recovery cases when required.
Minimize bad debts, write-offs, and aged receivables.

Ensure customer accounts are accurately maintained and reconciled.
Review invoices, credit notes, debit notes, receipts, and adjustments.
Identify and resolve unapplied cash and payment discrepancies.
Coordinate with Accounts Payable/Finance teams where customer or inter-company issues arise.
Ensure customer statements are issued regularly and accurately.
Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

Develop, review, and implement effective credit control policies and procedures.
Establish standardized processes for credit approval, collection, escalation, and debt recovery.
Identify weaknesses in existing processes and implement corrective measures.
Improve collection efficiency through automation, reporting, and system enhancements.
Ensure proper segregation of duties and internal controls within the credit function.

Work closely with Sales, Finance, Customer Service, and Operations to resolve customer account issues.
Support Sales teams in evaluating customer creditworthiness before accepting significant orders.
Ensure commercial teams understand and comply with approved credit terms.
Resolve disputes relating to pricing, invoices, deliveries, returns, and contractual matters that affect collections.
Participate in customer meetings where required.

Lead, supervise, and develop the Credit Control team.
Allocate accounts and collection responsibilities effectively.
Set individual and team collection targets and KPIs.
Monitor team performance and provide coaching and support.
Develop team capability in credit assessment, negotiation, collection, and customer relationship management.

Ensure compliance with company credit policies and financial control procedures.
Maintain appropriate documentation for credit approvals and collection activities.
Support internal and external audits.
Ensure customer credit information is maintained securely and confidentially.
Monitor adherence to approved credit limits and payment terms.

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
Professional qualification such as CA, ACCA, CMA, CPA or equivalent is an advantage.
7–10 years of relevant experience in credit control, accounts receivable, collections, or financial management.
Previous experience in a Credit Control Manager/Senior Credit Controller role is preferred.
Strong knowledge of credit management and accounts receivable processes.
Experience with ERP/accounting systems and advanced MS Excel.
