Job Title: Host/Hostess (Order Taker)

Department: Food & Beverage Service

Reports To: Shift Leader / F&B Captain / Restaurant Manager

Position Summary:

The Host/Hostess is the first and last point of contact for guests, responsible for creating a positive and welcoming impression. This role manages the reservation system, seating arrangements, and waitlist, while ensuring an organized and efficient flow in the dining area. In some establishments, they may also function as the primary order taker for takeaway or counter-service.

Key Responsibilities:

Guest Reception: Greet all guests warmly, with a smile, upon arrival and departure. Manage the host stand in a professional manner.
Reservation & Seating Management: Answer phones, manage the reservation book or software system, and record guest preferences. Strategically seat guests to balance server sections and ensure optimal service flow.
Waitlist Coordination: Accurately estimate and quote wait times. Manage a waitlist efficiently, taking guest contact information and notifying them promptly when their table is ready.
Menu & Information: Provide menus and clearly communicate restaurant information (specials, wait times, promotions). In some settings, take food and beverage orders accurately at the counter or via phone.
Dining Room Oversight: Monitor table status (clean, occupied, ready) and communicate effectively with servers and bussers to expedite table turnover.
Cash Handling: Process take-out payments and, in some cases, handle cash transactions for waitlist deposits or merchandise.

Qualifications & Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A friendly, welcoming, and patient demeanor.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a busy environment.
Neat and professional appearance.
Basic computer skills and phone etiquette.
Ability to stand for extended periods.
A calm and diplomatic approach, especially when dealing with guest inquiries or complaints about waiting times.
