Jr. Estimator

Reports To: Senior Estimator / Chief Estimator / Commercial Manager

Job Summary:

The Jr. Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for façade or construction projects. This involves analyzing tender documents, performing quantity take-offs, sourcing material and labor costs, and assisting in the compilation of bid proposals to secure new business.

Key Responsibilities:

Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities (BOQs) to understand project scope.
Perform accurate quantity take-offs and measurements from drawings using manual methods or estimating software.
Source and collect current material prices from suppliers and subcontractors.
Assist in building up unit rates for various items by factoring in material, labor, plant, and overhead costs.
Help maintain and update the company's cost database and historical data.
Prepare clear and organized summaries of take-offs and cost comparisons.
Assist in the preparation of formal bid submission documents and presentations.
Liaise with procurement and project teams to validate cost assumptions.
Participate in site visits for pre-tender assessments when required.
Analyze and compare subcontractor quotations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
0-2 years of experience in a similar estimating or quantity surveying role within the construction industry.
Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
Proficiency in MS Excel is crucial; experience with estimating software (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam) is a plus.
Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
Good organizational skills to manage multiple tender packages under deadline pressure.
Strong communication skills for liaising with internal teams and external suppliers.
