Quantity Surveyor - MEP (5-10 Years Experience)

Reports To: Commercial Manager / MEP Manager

Key Relationships: MEP Manager, Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, Procurement, Subcontractors

Job Summary:

A specialist Quantity Surveyor focused solely on the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) packages. This role requires technical understanding of MEP systems to accurately measure, value, and manage the costs of complex services installations.

Key Responsibilities:

MEP Cost Management: Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets, and cost-to-complete forecasts for all MEP works.
Specialist Procurement: Prepare MEP-specific bills of quantities and tender documents. Evaluate specialist subcontractor bids and assist in award recommendations.
Subcontract Administration: Manage the full commercial lifecycle of MEP subcontracts, from pre-award negotiation to interim valuations, variation management, and final account agreement.
Valuation: Measure and value MEP work in progress for client billing, often using proprietary measurement rules for pipes, ducts, cables, etc.
Change Management: Assess the cost impact of design changes on MEP systems. Prepare and negotiate variation orders.
Cost Control: Monitor MEP material and labor costs, identifying and reporting on variances.
Claims: Assist in preparing and defending claims related to MEP works.

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of QS experience, with at least 3 years specialized in MEP within a contracting or specialist subcontractor environment.
Strong technical understanding of MEP systems, materials, and installation processes.
Familiarity with standard methods of measurement for MEP works.
