SPECIALIST GASTROENTEROLOGY
Job Title: Specialist Gastroenterology
Department: Gastroenterology / Internal Medicine
Reporting To: Consultant Gastroenterologist / Head of Department
Location: Ain Al Khaleej Hospital, Al Ain, UAE
Job Purpose:
To provide specialized medical care in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diseases. The Specialist will perform diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, manage inpatient and outpatient care, and work closely under the guidance of Consultants within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities & Duties:
- Clinical Services:
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a wide range of GI conditions (e.g., IBD, GI cancers, liver diseases, pancreatic disorders, functional GI disorders).
- Perform and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including:
- Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy (with biopsy, polypectomy)
- Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) [if credentialed]
- Capsule Endoscopy
- Manage hospital inpatients with acute GI conditions and provide GI consultations to other departments.
- Run outpatient clinics for new and follow-up patients.
- Procedural Expertise:
- Maintain high competency in endoscopic techniques, ensuring patient safety and adherence to infection control protocols.
- Coordinate with anesthesia and endoscopy nursing staff for procedural care.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with Consultants, Surgeons, Radiologists, Oncologists, and Dietitians to develop comprehensive patient care plans.
- Participate in regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Quality & Compliance:
- Adhere strictly to DOH (Department of Health - Abu Dhabi) regulations, clinical guidelines, and hospital policies.
- Document all patient interactions, procedures, and plans accurately in the hospital's electronic medical record system.
- Participate in relevant quality assurance and continuous education activities.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Medical Degree: MBBS or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Post-Graduate Qualification: Board Certification / Membership / Fellowship in Gastroenterology (e.g., Arab Board, American Board, MRCP, equivalent).
- License: Valid DOH (Department of Health - Abu Dhabi) license or a confirmed DOH exam passer.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of post-specialization experience in Gastroenterology, with significant hands-on experience in therapeutic endoscopy.
- Note: For this Specialist role, "post-specialization" typically refers to years after obtaining the higher qualification in Gastroenterology.
- Skills: High technical proficiency in endoscopy. Excellent clinical judgment and patient management skills.
- Language: Proficiency in English is essential; Arabic is an advantage.
- Availability: Must be able to join immediately.
