Job Title: Middle and High School English Language Arts Teacher

Reports to: Head of English Department / Principal

Job Overview:

We are seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable English Teacher to join our vibrant school community. The ideal candidate will foster a deep appreciation for literature, language, and writing in students from grades 7 through 12. You will be responsible for delivering a rigorous, engaging curriculum that develops students' critical thinking, analytical writing, and verbal communication skills. You will guide students through a diverse range of literary works, from classic novels to contemporary texts, while honing their ability to craft compelling narratives and persuasive arguments.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development & Instruction:
Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated lesson plans that align with school, state, and national standards.
Teach a variety of literary genres, including poetry, drama, fiction, and non-fiction.
Instruct students in the fundamentals of grammar, vocabulary, and composition, emphasizing the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing).
Integrate technology effectively into the classroom to enhance learning and engagement.
Prepare students for standardized tests, AP/IB examinations (if applicable), and college-level writing expectations.
Assessment & Evaluation:
Design and administer a variety of assessments (essays, projects, presentations, quizzes) to measure student progress.
Provide timely, constructive, and personalized feedback on student work to support their academic growth.
Maintain accurate and complete records of student attendance, achievement, and progress.
Classroom Environment:
Create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment that encourages student voice and intellectual risk-taking.
Establish and communicate clear expectations for student behavior, fostering a culture of mutual respect and academic focus.
Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate with colleagues within the English department and across other disciplines to create interdisciplinary learning opportunities.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, concerns, and achievements through conferences, emails, and reports.
Participate in department, faculty, and parent-teacher meetings.
Extracurricular & Professional Development:
Participate in and contribute to the school's extracurricular activities (e.g., sponsoring the literary magazine, coaching debate team, advising the drama club).
Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in English education and pedagogy.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Valid state teaching certification for secondary English/Language Arts.
Proven experience teaching English at the middle and/or high school level.
Strong classroom management skills and the ability to build rapport with adolescents.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
A genuine passion for literature and a commitment to fostering a love of reading and writing in all students.
