Detailed Job Description:
A Sonographer is a highly-skilled allied health professional who uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. They play a critical role in assisting physicians with diagnosing a wide range of medical conditions. The Sonographer is responsible for performing examinations, ensuring patient comfort, and providing preliminary findings to the radiologist.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide range of ultrasound examinations, including but not limited to Abdominal, Obstetric, Gynecological, Vascular (Doppler), Small Parts, and Musculoskeletal studies.
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, answering questions, and ensuring informed consent is obtained.
- Position patients and operate sophisticated ultrasound equipment to capture optimal diagnostic images.
- Utilize Doppler and color flow imaging to visualize and assess blood flow.
- Analyze sonographic images, identify normal and pathological findings, and differentiate between artifacts and true pathology.
- Provide a summary of preliminary findings to the Radiologist or referring physician.
- Maintain detailed patient records and ensure all images are accurately labeled and archived in the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System).
- Adhere to strict infection control, safety, and patient confidentiality protocols (e.g., HIPAA, JCI, or local MOH standards).
- Perform routine quality control and calibration of equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Mandatory License: Valid MOH (Ministry of Health) / DHA (Dubai Health Authority) License or Eligibility Letter.
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography from an accredited institution.
- Certification: Professional certification from a recognized international body (e.g., ARDMS, CCI, or equivalent) is highly preferred and often required.
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of post-qualification clinical experience in a hospital or major diagnostic center. Experience in multiple sonography specialties is an advantage.
Required Skills:
- Excellent knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and sonographic pathology.
- Proficiency in operating various ultrasound machines and PACS software.
- Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Exceptional patient care and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
