Machine Operator (Landscaping)
Job Summary:
The Landscaping Machine Operator safely and efficiently operates a variety of powered equipment to perform landscape construction and maintenance tasks. This role requires mechanical aptitude, a focus on safety, and the skill to execute precise work to meet project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate and maintain a range of landscaping machinery, including but not limited to: skid-steer loaders, mini-excavators, trenchers, sod cutters, aerators, power rakes, and commercial mowers.
- Perform tasks such as grading and leveling soil, excavating for patios or plantings, laying sod, tilling, aerating, and precise mowing/edging.
- Conduct daily pre-operation inspections of equipment (checking fluids, tires, belts, safety features) and perform basic preventative maintenance.
- Report equipment malfunctions or needed repairs to the supervisor promptly.
- Follow project plans and markings to accurately execute work with minimal rework.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing PPE, understanding load limits, and being aware of underground utilities and surroundings.
- Assist in training ground crew on safe equipment practices and may direct them during specific machine operations.
- Transport equipment to and from job sites safely, following all traffic laws.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience operating landscaping or construction machinery.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of equipment maintenance.
- Knowledge of landscape construction techniques and materials.
- Ability to read basic site plans and grade stakes.
- Valid driver’s license; commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required for some roles.
- Excellent spatial awareness, coordination, and attention to detail.
