Reporting To: Maintenance Manager / Engineering Manager
Summary: The Mechanical Senior Specialist is the subject matter expert and highest technical authority for mechanical systems within the facility. This role is responsible for providing advanced engineering solutions, leading complex troubleshooting, driving reliability improvements, and setting maintenance standards. The incumbent mentors junior engineers and specialists and plays a key role in capital projects and long-term asset strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the ultimate technical resource for solving chronic, complex mechanical failures (rotating equipment, pumps, turbines, compressors, gearboxes, alignment, vibration).
- Develop, review, and approve mechanical maintenance strategies, procedures, and standards (SOPs, Job Plans).
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for major breakdowns and implement permanent corrective actions.
- Spearhead reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives and predictive maintenance (PdM) programs.
- Provide critical technical review and approval for new equipment specifications, modifications, and capital projects.
- Analyze equipment performance data and maintenance history to recommend design improvements or replacement strategies.
- Provide on-the-job training and technical guidance to Specialists, Technicians, and operations personnel.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant safety, environmental, and industry standards (API, ANSI, ASME).
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a related field. A Bachelor's degree is a strong advantage.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive hands-on experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, with at least 5 years in a specialist or senior engineering role.
- In-depth expertise in specific equipment relevant to the industry (e.g., centrifugal pumps, reciprocating compressors, steam turbines, conveyor systems).
- Proven mastery of advanced troubleshooting techniques, vibration analysis, laser alignment, and metallurgy.
- Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and reliability software.
