Job Summary:
The Cost Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate, comprehensive, and competitive cost estimates for civil and villa construction projects. This role involves detailed quantity take-offs, BOQ preparation, budgeting, and active support throughout the tendering process, from initial inquiry to post-tender clarification.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Tender Activities:
- Analyze tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract conditions to understand project scope.
- Perform detailed quantity take-off (QTO) from architectural, structural, and MEP drawings using manual methods and software.
- Prepare comprehensive Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and cost estimates, including materials, labor, plant/equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Source and solicit quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Perform rate analysis and build up unit rates for all BOQ items.
- Develop detailed project budgets and cost plans.
- Identify and quantify project risks and opportunities during the estimation phase.
- Tendering & Post-Tender Activities:
- Prepare and compile the commercial proposal (cost proposal) as part of the tender submission.
- Coordinate with the technical team to ensure the estimate aligns with the proposed methodology.
- Participate in tender clarification meetings with clients and consultants.
- Analyze and compare post-tender documents and provide insights on competitiveness.
- Prepare post-tender negotiations and value engineering proposals.
- Hand over awarded project estimates to the project team for execution and cost control.
- General:
- Utilize estimation software (e.g., CostX, Planswift, MS Project, or similar) proficiently.
- Maintain a database of material prices, labor rates, and historical cost data.
- Ensure all estimates are accurate, well-documented, and prepared within deadlines.
- Collaborate with project managers, planners, and design teams.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of dedicated experience in cost estimation for civil/villa construction projects.
- Technical Expertise:
- Expert in BOQ preparation, quantity take-off, and project budgeting.
- Proficient in estimation and costing software.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and market rates.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, teamwork, and time-management skills. Ability to work under pressure to meet tender deadlines.
