Job Summary
The Accounts Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements, and managing the day-to-day activities of the accounting team. The role plays a critical part in financial planning, budgeting, cash flow management, and supporting strategic business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and financial records.
- Monitor financial performance and provide management with financial insights and recommendations.
- Prepare management reports, variance analyses, and financial forecasts.
Accounting Operations
- Manage daily accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and fixed assets.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded and documented.
- Supervise month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and internal controls.
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Coordinate the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and analyze variances.
- Support department heads in budget planning and cost management.
- Provide recommendations to improve financial efficiency and profitability.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity requirements.
- Oversee banking activities, payments, and fund management.
- Ensure effective management of receivables and payables.
- Support financing activities and banking relationships when required.
Compliance & Taxation
- Ensure compliance with local tax regulations, financial reporting requirements, and statutory obligations.
- Coordinate tax filings, VAT/GST returns, and other regulatory submissions.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities.
- Ensure readiness for internal and external audits.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, supervise, and develop the accounting team.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Provide coaching, training, and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
Internal Controls & Risk Management
- Establish and maintain strong internal control systems.
- Monitor compliance with financial policies and procedures.
- Identify financial risks and implement mitigation measures.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Collaborate with senior management on financial planning and decision-making.
- Support business units with financial analysis and reporting needs.
- Communicate financial information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and taxation.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification such as CPA, ACCA, CMA, or equivalent.
- Experience in multinational organizations or industry-specific accounting environments.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and financial automation tools.
- Experience managing audits and regulatory compliance requirements.
