Detailed Job Description:
An Endoscopy Technician is a vital member of the endoscopy team, providing essential technical support before, during, and after endoscopic procedures. They are experts in the handling, maintenance, and sterilization of complex endoscopic equipment, ensuring a safe and efficient environment for both patients and clinicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the endoscopy procedure room, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and functioning correctly.
- Assist the gastroenterologist or surgeon during procedures by handling and passing instruments, managing accessory devices (e.g., biopsy forceps, snares), and operating suction and irrigation systems.
- Perform high-level disinfection and sterilization of flexible endoscopes and accessories according to strict infection control protocols and manufacturer guidelines.
- Check and troubleshoot endoscopic equipment (scopes, light sources, video processors, monitors) to identify and report any malfunctions.
- Handle and label specimen collection (biopsies) accurately for pathology.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of endoscopic supplies and consumables.
- Provide direct patient care, which may include positioning, pre-procedure preparation, and monitoring vital signs under the supervision of a nurse.
- Adhere to all safety standards related to chemical disinfectants and biological hazards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Mandatory License: Valid MOH / DHA License or Eligibility Letter.
- Education: Diploma or Certificate in Endoscopy Technology, Nursing, or a related allied health field.
- Certification: Certification in Endoscope Reprocessing (e.g., SGNA's CRCST or equivalent) is a significant advantage.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in a hospital endoscopy unit or operating room.
Required Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of endoscopic procedures, instrumentation, and equipment.
- Expertise in endoscope reprocessing and infection control practices.
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently and calmly under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical stamina to stand for long periods and assist with patient handling.
