Arabic Teacher (for an International/Arabic Context Nursery)
Position Overview:
The Arabic Teacher is responsible for introducing the Arabic language and, where relevant, Islamic studies/Arabic culture to young children in an engaging, age-appropriate, and immersive manner. They work to foster a positive connection with the language and heritage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Language Immersion: Deliver fun, interactive Arabic language sessions through songs, stories, games, and practical activities. Integrate basic Arabic vocabulary and phrases into daily nursery routines.
- Cultural Enrichment: Plan and lead activities that celebrate Arabic culture, traditions, and Islamic values (if applicable), promoting respect and cultural awareness among all children.
- Curriculum Integration: Work with classroom teachers to link Arabic learning to the overarching nursery themes and EYFS areas of learning.
- Resource Development: Create and source engaging, high-quality resources and displays to support Arabic language acquisition.
- Progress Monitoring: Gently assess and note children’s engagement and progression in understanding and using Arabic, providing feedback to parents and staff.
Person Specification:
- Native or near-native fluency in Modern Standard Arabic and a relevant dialect.
- Formal qualification in Arabic language, education, or a related field. Early Years experience is essential.
- Creative and dynamic teaching style suitable for very young learners.
- Understanding of how young children acquire additional languages.
