Receiving Clerk
Job Title: Receiving Clerk / Warehouse Receiver
Department: Logistics / Warehouse / Inventory
Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor / Inventory Manager
Job Overview:
The Receiving Clerk is responsible for efficiently and accurately receiving all incoming shipments. This role involves verifying shipments against purchase orders, inspecting goods for damage, and ensuring items are properly logged and stored in the inventory system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Unload, unpack, and receive all incoming shipments (raw materials, supplies, equipment) from vendors and carriers.
- Carefully inspect all received items for quantity, quality, and damage, comparing them against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Accurately record received items into the inventory management or ERP system, updating stock levels.
- Label and tag received goods and move them to appropriate storage locations using material handling equipment (e.g., pallet jack).
- Identify and report any discrepancies (shortages, overages, damages) to the supervisor and purchasing department immediately.
- Prepare and process receiving reports and documentation for accounting and inventory control.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe receiving area.
- Coordinate with the warehouse team to ensure smooth transfer of goods to storage or other departments.
- Operate and perform basic maintenance on receiving equipment (scanners, forklifts - if certified).
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a receiving, warehouse, or inventory role.
- Basic math skills and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and bills of lading.
- Physical stamina to lift, carry, and move heavy objects and stand for extended periods.
- Familiarity with inventory software and handheld scanners.
- Forklift certification is often preferred or required.
- Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
