General Technician (Maintenance)
Reports To: Engineering Supervisor / Chief Engineer
Works Alongside: AC Technician, Kitchen Technician, Specialized Trades
Job Overview:
The General Technician is a versatile and skilled professional responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and minor installation tasks across the facility. This role is the backbone of the maintenance team, addressing issues related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and basic equipment to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Routine & Corrective Maintenance: Execute daily work orders for repairs of fixtures, furniture, doors, locks, windows, and minor structural elements.
- Plumbing Tasks: Repair leaks, unclog drains and toilets, replace faucets, valves, and piping. Assist with sump pumps and water heaters.
- Electrical Tasks: Perform basic electrical work such as replacing bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets, and simple circuits. Troubleshoot GFCI failures and report complex issues to supervisors.
- Carpentry & Finishing: Perform drywall repair, patching, painting, and basic carpentry to maintain interior and exterior finishes.
- Grounds & Exterior Support: Assist with minor exterior maintenance such as clearing drains, basic landscaping support, and maintaining walkways.
- Equipment Support: Perform basic servicing and troubleshooting of general facility equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, fans, small appliances).
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct scheduled PM tasks as assigned, such as lubrication, filter changes, belt inspections, and system testing.
- Documentation: Accurately log time, materials used, and work performed in the CMMS or work order system.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, use PPE correctly, and maintain a clean and organized work area. Participate in safety training.
Qualifications & Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a technical trade program or apprenticeship is a plus.
- Minimum 2-4 years of experience in general building maintenance or a related field.
- Broad knowledge of multiple trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to lift heavy objects, work from ladders, and stand for extended periods.
- Basic computer skills for work order management.
