Job Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Math Teacher to join our Mathematics Department. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of mathematical concepts and a passion for helping students develop problem-solving skills and mathematical reasoning. You will be responsible for teaching a range of math courses, building a deep conceptual understanding, and showing students the beauty and applicability of mathematics in the real world. The goal is to prepare students for advanced mathematical studies and to equip them with the quantitative skills necessary for future success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development & Instruction:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated math lessons that align with school, state, and national standards (e.g., Common Core).
- Teach a range of math subjects, which may include Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Statistics, based on grade level and expertise.
- Facilitate a student-centered classroom where students are actively engaged in problem-solving, critical thinking, and mathematical discourse.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies and technologies (e.g., graphing calculators, educational software, online platforms) to enhance learning.
- Connect mathematical concepts to real-world applications and other disciplines.
- Assessment & Evaluation:
- Design and administer a variety of assessments, including quizzes, tests, projects, and performance tasks, to gauge student understanding.
- Analyze assessment data to inform instruction and provide targeted support to students.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to help them master concepts and improve their skills.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
- Classroom Environment:
- Create a positive, rigorous, and supportive learning environment that encourages students to persevere through challenges and embrace a growth mindset.
- Establish clear expectations for student behavior and academic integrity.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with other math teachers to ensure curriculum alignment and share best practices.
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, strengths, and areas for growth.
- Participate in department meetings, professional learning communities, and school events.
- Extracurricular & Professional Development:
- Participate in or lead extracurricular activities, such as Math Club, MathCounts, or tutoring sessions.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in mathematics education and pedagogy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid state teaching certification in secondary Mathematics.
- Proven experience teaching mathematics at the middle and/or high school level.
- Strong knowledge of mathematical content and effective pedagogical strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine passion for mathematics and a commitment to fostering a love of the subject in all students.
