Job Title: Collector
Job Summary
The Collector is responsible for following up on outstanding payments from customers or clients and ensuring timely recovery of dues. The role involves maintaining communication with debtors, updating payment records, and supporting the organization’s cash flow and credit control processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow up with customers regarding overdue payments via calls, visits, or written communication
- Collect payments and ensure accurate recording of transactions
- Maintain updated records of accounts receivable and collection status
- Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies or disputes
- Coordinate with the finance or accounts department on outstanding balances
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly collection reports
- Ensure adherence to company credit policies and collection procedures
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients while recovering dues
- Escalate high-risk or long-overdue accounts to supervisors
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred for senior roles)
- Previous experience in collections, sales, or customer service is an advantage
- Basic knowledge of accounting and payment processes
- Good communication and negotiation skills
- Ability to handle pressure and meet collection targets
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in banking, finance, microfinance, or retail collections
- Familiarity with accounting software or CRM systems
- Knowledge of local language(s) and customer handling practices
