Job Summary
The General Accountant – Excise Tax is responsible for managing accounting activities related to excise tax compliance, reporting, and reconciliation. This role ensures accurate recording of financial transactions, timely preparation and submission of excise tax returns, compliance with applicable tax regulations, and support for audits and financial reporting processes.
Key Responsibilities
Excise Tax Compliance
- Prepare, review, and submit excise tax returns in accordance with applicable regulations and deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements related to excise tax.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess their impact on business operations.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation supporting excise tax filings.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Record and reconcile excise tax transactions within the accounting system.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of tax-related transactions.
Tax Analysis & Reconciliation
- Analyze financial data to determine excise tax liabilities.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in tax calculations and reports.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to excise tax and indirect taxes.
- Review sales, purchases, inventory movements, and other transactions for tax accuracy.
Audit & Regulatory Support
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Liaise with tax authorities regarding excise tax matters, inquiries, and assessments.
- Support tax audits and compliance reviews.
- Ensure readiness of records for regulatory inspections.
Process Improvement
- Assist in developing and implementing tax compliance procedures and internal controls.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting and tax reporting processes.
- Support automation and system enhancements related to tax reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field.
- Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, CMA, CA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
- 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably with exposure to excise tax, indirect tax, VAT, or regulatory compliance.

- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and tax regulations.
- Understanding of excise tax laws and reporting requirements.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software/ERP systems.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in manufacturing, retail, logistics, FMCG, tobacco, beverages, energy, or other excise-tax-regulated industries.
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms.
- Experience with tax authority portals and electronic filing systems.

Working Conditions
- Full-time office-based or hybrid role.
