Role Summary
The Shovel Operator is responsible for operating heavy machinery such as wheel loaders or power shovels to excavate, load, and move materials like soil, sand, gravel, or debris at construction, mining, or industrial sites. The role requires safe machine operation and adherence to site safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate shovel or wheel loader equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load, move, and unload materials as per site requirements.
- Perform excavation and material handling tasks as instructed.
- Conduct daily pre-operation checks on machinery (fuel, hydraulics, tires, brakes, etc.).
- Ensure safe operation of equipment in busy or hazardous site environments.
- Follow site plans, supervisor instructions, and safety regulations.
- Assist in basic maintenance and report mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper care of assigned equipment.
- Coordinate with site supervisors, truck drivers, and ground crews.
- Keep accurate records of machine usage and work completed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid heavy equipment operator license/certification (as per local regulations).
- Proven experience operating shovel, wheel loader, or similar heavy machinery.
- Strong understanding of construction or material handling operations.
- Good knowledge of safety procedures and site regulations.
- Physically fit and able to work in outdoor environments.
- Ability to operate machinery in rough and uneven terrain.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in construction, mining, quarry, or infrastructure projects.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting minor issues.
- Strong attention to safety and operational detail.
