Civil Torchman – Waterproofing Membrane
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Civil Torchman skilled in the installation of torch-applied waterproofing membranes. The candidate will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying bituminous waterproofing membranes using a gas torch, ensuring proper overlaps and sealing, and maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out installation of torch-applied waterproofing membranes on roofs, foundations, basements, terraces, podiums, and other designated areas.
- Prepare surfaces by cleaning, drying, leveling, and removing dust, debris, oil, and loose materials.
- Apply primer and other approved surface treatments as required.
- Measure, cut, position, and align waterproofing membrane rolls correctly.
- Use a gas torch safely to heat and bond the membrane to the prepared surface.
- Ensure proper side and end overlaps between membrane sheets.
- Seal joints, corners, edges, penetrations, outlets, and other critical areas properly.
- Ensure the membrane is fully bonded without wrinkles, air pockets, or open joints.
- Follow approved method statements, drawings, and waterproofing specifications.
- Inspect completed work for defects, gaps, poor adhesion, or damaged membrane and carry out repairs as required.
- Coordinate with civil supervisors, waterproofing applicators, and other site workers.
- Protect completed waterproofing from damage during subsequent construction activities.
- Maintain proper use and storage of gas cylinders, torches, tools, and waterproofing materials.
- Follow all site safety, PPE, fire prevention, and hot-work permit requirements.
- Report unsafe conditions, material defects, or installation issues to the supervisor.
- Maintain cleanliness of the work area and dispose of waste materials properly.
Requirements
- 2–5 years of experience in torch-applied waterproofing membrane installation or similar civil waterproofing work.
- Practical experience with APP/SBS modified bitumen membrane systems is preferred.
- Good knowledge of surface preparation, membrane laying, heating, bonding, and joint sealing.
- Ability to safely operate a gas torch and related equipment.
- Understanding of waterproofing details around corners, joints, drains, pipes, and penetrations.
- Physically fit and comfortable working at heights and in outdoor construction environments.
- Knowledge of basic site safety and hot-work procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions, drawings, and method statements.
- Responsible, punctual, and quality-conscious.

Preferred Experience
- Experience in high-rise, commercial, industrial, residential, or infrastructure projects.
- Experience with waterproofing of roofs, terraces, basements, retaining walls, podiums, and foundations.
- Ability to work effectively with waterproofing supervisors and civil construction teams.
