Maintenance Engineer — Job Description
Job Summary
The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliable, safe, and efficient operation of machinery, equipment, utilities, and facility systems. The role involves preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, maintenance planning, root-cause analysis, and coordination with technicians and external service providers to minimize equipment downtime.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and monitor preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
- Inspect machinery, equipment, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Diagnose equipment failures and identify the root causes of breakdowns.
- Coordinate and supervise maintenance technicians and contractors.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
- Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and checklists.
- Ensure maintenance activities are completed according to approved procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
- Maintain accurate records of equipment history, breakdowns, repairs, spare parts, and maintenance activities.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability and efficiency.
- Coordinate the procurement and availability of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance materials.
- Review technical specifications, manuals, drawings, and equipment documentation.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, modification, and upgrading of machinery and equipment.
- Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor maintenance costs and support effective utilization of maintenance resources.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
- Implement proper lockout/tagout and other safe maintenance practices where applicable.
- Coordinate inspections, servicing, calibration, and certification of equipment as required.
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, and service contractors for technical support.
- Prepare maintenance reports, KPIs, and recommendations for management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing breakdowns, downtime, and maintenance costs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related Engineering discipline.
- 3–7 years of relevant maintenance engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or automated systems, depending on the industry.
- Knowledge of maintenance management systems/CMMS is an advantage.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, and equipment specifications.
- Good knowledge of industrial safety and maintenance procedures.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication, leadership, and team coordination abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency breakdowns.
- Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD or relevant engineering software is an advantage.
