Gardener
Job Summary:
The Gardener is responsible for the hands-on cultivation, care, and maintenance of ornamental gardens, plant beds, and container displays. This role focuses on horticultural excellence to ensure plant health, aesthetic beauty, and the overall vibrancy of landscaped areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of garden maintenance: planting, weeding, deadheading, pruning, mulching, and edging.
- Monitor plant health, identify signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies, and report issues to the supervisor.
- Apply fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides under direction and in accordance with safety standards and regulations.
- Operate and maintain gardening tools and light equipment such as hedge trimmers, pruners, tillers, and leaf blowers.
- Water plants manually or manage irrigation systems for assigned areas, adjusting for weather conditions.
- Assist in the design and seasonal rotation of annual color beds and container plantings.
- Maintain cleanliness of garden areas by removing debris, leaves, and spent plant material.
- Collaborate with the landscaping team to ensure a seamless transition between garden beds and turf areas.
- Provide knowledgeable and friendly interaction with clients or the public regarding the gardens when appropriate.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Knowledge of horticultural practices, plant identification, and seasonal gardening requirements.
- Experience with gardening tools and techniques.
- Ability to perform physical labor in all weather conditions.
- An eye for detail, design, and color.
- Basic understanding of pest management and irrigation.
- Reliability, patience, and a passion for plants and gardening.
