Nursery Teacher (Early Years Practitioner)
Position Overview:
The Nursery Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, playful learning experiences that support the holistic development of children within their key worker group. They create a nurturing and stimulating classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning & Delivery: Plan and implement a rich, balanced curriculum based on the EYFS framework, following children's interests and needs. Lead teacher-directed activities and skillfully facilitate child-initiated play.
- Observation & Assessment: Conduct regular, formative observations of key children. Use these to assess progress, plan next steps, and maintain comprehensive learning journals (e.g., using Tapestry or paper portfolios).
- Learning Environment: Create and maintain an inviting, well-organized, and resource-rich indoor and outdoor learning environment that promotes independence, exploration, and challenge.
- Care & Nurture: Attend to children’s personal care needs (e.g., toileting, feeding, rest) with sensitivity and respect. Ensure their emotional well-being is supported.
- Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and other staff. Communicate effectively with parents on a daily basis about their child's day and development.
Person Specification:
- Minimum Level 3 Early Years qualification (or equivalent). Level 6/QTS is highly desirable.
- Thorough understanding of child development and the EYFS.
- Creativity, energy, and a genuine passion for early childhood education.
- Excellent observational, planning, and communication skills.
