Storekeeper — Job Description
Job Summary
The Storekeeper is responsible for receiving, storing, organizing, and issuing materials, equipment, tools, and supplies. The role ensures accurate inventory records, proper storage conditions, and timely availability of materials while minimizing loss, damage, and stock discrepancies.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect incoming materials and supplies.
- Verify quantities, specifications, and condition against purchase orders and delivery documents.
- Properly label, organize, and store items in designated locations.
- Issue materials to departments or employees against authorized requests.
- Maintain accurate stock records and update inventory systems.
- Monitor stock levels and identify shortages, excess stock, damaged items, and expired materials.
- Conduct regular physical stock counts and reconcile discrepancies.
- Follow FIFO/FEFO principles where applicable.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and proper housekeeping in the store.
- Prepare goods receipt notes, material issue notes, stock reports, and other store documentation.
- Coordinate with purchasing, accounts, production, and other departments regarding material requirements.
- Ensure secure handling of company materials and prevent unauthorized access.
- Assist with periodic and annual inventory audits.
- Follow company policies, health and safety procedures, and warehouse regulations.
Requirements
- High school/12th grade or equivalent; a diploma in logistics, warehouse management, or a related field is an advantage.
- 1–3 years of experience in storekeeping, inventory, or warehouse operations.
- Basic computer skills, particularly MS Excel and inventory/ERP software.
- Good knowledge of inventory control and warehouse procedures.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and perform physical stock checks.
- Good organizational and communication skills.
- Physically fit and able to handle or move materials when required.
- Attention to detail, honesty, and a responsible approach to company property.
