Job Description – Accountant (Construction)
We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant – Construction to manage financial accounting, project costing, invoicing, payments, and financial reporting for construction projects. The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of accounting principles and practical experience with construction-related financial transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate financial records for construction projects and the company.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and payment processing.
- Monitor project costs, budgets, expenses, material costs, labor costs, subcontractor payments, and overheads.
- Prepare project-wise cost reports and compare actual costs against budgets.
- Verify supplier, subcontractor, and vendor invoices against purchase orders, contracts, and supporting documents.
- Process subcontractor bills, retention amounts, advances, deductions, and final settlements.
- Reconcile bank accounts, supplier accounts, customer accounts, and project-related balances.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Assist with cash-flow forecasting and project financial planning.
- Maintain proper documentation for audits, tax filings, and statutory requirements.
- Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding customer payments.
- Coordinate with project managers, procurement, commercial, HR, and management teams regarding financial matters.
- Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, tax regulations, and applicable financial standards.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for construction projects.
- Identify discrepancies, control unnecessary costs, and recommend improvements to financial processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or contracting industry.
- Good knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Experience with project costing and construction accounting is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting/ERP software.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Good analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of applicable tax and statutory requirements is an advantage.
