Health Care Assistant
Job Description:
The Health Care Assistant (HCA) supports Registered Nurses and other medical staff in providing basic patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of the clinical unit. This role is vital for maintaining patient comfort and a hygienic care environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist patients with personal care activities (e.g., bathing, dressing, toileting, feeding).
- Help patients mobilize, move in/out of bed, and use assistive devices.
- Measure and record basic vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration).
- Make patient beds and clean and tidy patient areas.
- Assist nurses with medical procedures and equipment preparation.
- Transport patients within the facility (e.g., to radiology, therapy).
- Stock and maintain supplies in treatment rooms and ward areas.
- Report any changes in a patient's condition to the supervising nurse.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to patients.
Requirements:
- High school diploma; a certificate in Nursing Assistance or Patient Care is a plus.
- Previous experience as an HCA, Nursing Aide, or in a similar caregiving role.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients.
- Compassionate, respectful, and patient-centered attitude.
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and infection control.
- Willingness to perform essential but demanding care tasks.
