Draftsman (CAD Technician / Detailer)

Department: Engineering / Design Support
Reports To: Senior Engineer / Design Manager
Job Summary:
The Draftsman is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings, plans, and layouts based on sketches, calculations, and specifications provided by engineers and architects. This role is critical for translating design concepts into precise, buildable documents used for permitting, fabrication, and construction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drawing Production: Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation) for architectural, structural, mechanical, and civil works.
- Detail Development: Create comprehensive construction details, sections, and elevations to clarify design intent and construction methods.
- Drawing Management: Maintain and update drawing registers. Issue revisions and ensure all project team members work from the latest set of drawings.
- Coordination: Work closely with engineers, architects, and other draftsmen to resolve design conflicts and ensure drawing consistency across disciplines.
- Compliance: Ensure all drawings comply with relevant company standards, project specifications, and applicable building codes.
- Material Take-offs: Assist in performing quantity take-offs from drawings for estimation and procurement purposes.
- Site Support: Occasionally visit site to verify conditions and produce as-built drawings based on actual construction.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Diploma or Associate’s degree in Drafting & Design, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a drafting role within the construction or engineering industry.
- High proficiency in AutoCAD is essential. Experience with BIM software (Revit) is a significant advantage.
- Strong understanding of construction techniques, materials, and terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail, spatial reasoning, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings.
