Job Title: Commis Chef / Commis
Job Summary
A Commis is a junior member of the kitchen team who assists in food preparation and basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a Chef de Partie or Head Chef. This role is ideal for someone starting a career in culinary arts and looking to gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of ingredients according to recipes
- Chop, slice, and prepare vegetables, meat, and other ingredients
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including workstations and equipment
- Help with plating and garnishing dishes as directed
- Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times
- Receive and store deliveries properly
- Support senior chefs in day-to-day kitchen operations
- Ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients (FIFO – First In, First Out)
- Learn and develop culinary skills under supervision
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Culinary school qualification or relevant kitchen experience (preferred but not mandatory)
- Basic knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen equipment
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions carefully
- Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Attention to detail and willingness to learn
