Job Title: Resident Engineer (RE)
Role Overview
The Resident Engineer is responsible for overseeing construction activities on-site, ensuring that all work is executed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, and contract requirements. The role serves as the primary representative of the client or consultant at the project site.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily construction activities and monitor project progress
- Ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards
- Review and approve contractor submissions (shop drawings, materials, method statements)
- Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and consultants
- Conduct regular site inspections and resolve technical issues
- Monitor quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) processes
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and HSE policies
- Review and certify work progress and contractor payment applications
- Maintain site records, reports, and project documentation
- Chair site meetings and prepare progress reports
- Ensure compliance with contract conditions and project timelines
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Strong knowledge of construction methods and materials
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Leadership and team coordination skills
- Excellent communication and reporting abilities
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Familiarity with contract administration (e.g., FIDIC)
- Proficiency in software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, or Primavera
Experience Requirements
- Typically 8–15+ years of experience in construction or engineering
- Prior experience in site supervision or project management roles
- Experience in similar projects (buildings, roads, infrastructure, etc.)
Certifications (Preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent
- PMP or project management certifications
- Relevant safety certifications
Work Environment
- Primarily based on construction sites
- Requires frequent inspections and coordination with stakeholders
- May involve long working hours depending on project demands
