Job Summary
A Door Carpenter / Installer is responsible for measuring, fitting, installing, repairing, and maintaining wooden, metal, glass, or PVC doors and related hardware in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. The role requires accuracy, craftsmanship, and knowledge of construction safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Measure door openings and prepare installation plans
- Install doors, frames, locks, hinges, handles, closers, and related hardware
- Cut, shape, and assemble wood or other materials using hand and power tools
- Repair damaged doors, frames, and fittings
- Ensure proper alignment, leveling, and smooth door operation
- Read and interpret technical drawings and site instructions
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
- Follow workplace safety procedures and building regulations
- Coordinate with supervisors, contractors, and other trades on-site
- Perform finishing work such as sanding, polishing, and sealing
Required Skills
- Knowledge of carpentry techniques and door installation methods
- Ability to use measuring tools and power equipment safely
- Good understanding of door hardware and locking systems
- Physical strength and stamina for lifting and installation work
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- ITI / vocational training in carpentry is an advantage
- Previous experience in door installation or carpentry preferred
- Knowledge of safety standards and construction practices
Working Conditions
- Indoor and outdoor construction environments
- May require standing, climbing, lifting, and overtime work
- Use of protective equipment such as gloves, helmets, and safety shoes
