Mechanical QC Engineer – Job Description
Position: Mechanical QC Engineer
Department: Quality Control / Quality Assurance
Reports To: QA/QC Manager, Project Manager, or Construction Manager
Job Summary
The Mechanical QC Engineer monitors, inspects, and verifies mechanical construction and installation activities to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and applicable codes. The role involves conducting inspections, preparing quality documentation, coordinating with clients and consultants, and ensuring that all mechanical works are completed to the required quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Inspection & Control
- Conduct inspections of mechanical works including piping, HVAC, firefighting systems, equipment installation, and structural components.
- Verify materials received on-site against approved material submittals and specifications.
- Monitor fabrication, erection, installation, and testing activities.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality plans, and international standards.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain Inspection Requests (IRs), Material Inspection Requests (MIRs), and quality records.
- Review and maintain quality documentation, checklists, and test reports.
- Prepare Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective action reports when required.
- Maintain records of inspections, tests, and approvals.
Testing & Commissioning
- Witness pressure testing, hydrostatic testing, leak testing, and functional testing.
- Verify mechanical equipment alignment, calibration, and installation quality.
- Participate in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Ensure test procedures comply with project requirements and standards.
Coordination
- Coordinate with construction teams, consultants, clients, and subcontractors regarding quality issues.
- Attend quality meetings and inspections with client representatives.
- Follow up on corrective actions and quality improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as:
- ASME
- ASTM
- API
- ISO 9001
- AWS (for welding inspections)
- Project specifications and local regulations
- Verify that all work complies with approved method statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3–10+ years of experience in QA/QC, construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, power plants, or industrial projects (depending on position level).
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection procedures and quality systems.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometric drawings, and technical specifications.
Preferred Certifications
- ASNT Level II (NDT)
- CSWIP Welding Inspector
- API Certifications (API 510, API 570, etc.)
- ISO 9001 Internal Auditor
- Lead Auditor Certification (preferred for senior roles)
