Job Summary
A Piling & Shoring Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising piling and shoring works for foundation and deep excavation projects. The role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of piling systems (bored piles, driven piles, sheet piles, secant piles) and shoring systems (bracing, strutting, retaining systems) in accordance with design, specifications, and project schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution
- Plan and execute piling and shoring activities as per project schedule.
- Review construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and method statements.
- Prepare work sequences and coordinate foundation execution strategies.
- Ensure alignment of site execution with design requirements.
Site Supervision & Construction Management
- Supervise piling rigs, shoring installation, and excavation support works.
- Monitor daily site activities and ensure productivity targets are achieved.
- Coordinate with foremen, subcontractors, and site teams.
- Ensure proper alignment, verticality, and positioning of piles and supports.
Technical Coordination
- Interpret structural and geotechnical designs for piling and shoring systems.
- Coordinate with structural engineers and design consultants.
- Resolve technical issues during execution.
- Support design modifications based on site conditions when required.
Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Conduct inspections for pile depth, reinforcement, concreting, and integrity tests.
- Monitor shoring installation quality (anchors, struts, walers).
- Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspections and approvals.
Safety Management (HSE)
- Enforce strict safety practices for deep excavation and piling operations.
- Ensure compliance with excavation safety and shoring stability requirements.
- Conduct toolbox talks and daily safety briefings.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as lifting, drilling, and excavation.
Equipment & Resource Management
- Coordinate mobilization and operation of piling rigs and heavy equipment.
- Monitor equipment utilization and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure availability of materials such as casing, reinforcement, and concrete.
- Optimize resource usage to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Track daily and weekly progress of piling and shoring works.
- Prepare progress reports and productivity analysis.
- Identify delays and implement corrective actions.
- Report site conditions and technical issues to management.
Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate with project managers, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Attend site meetings and technical discussions.
- Liaise with geotechnical engineers and survey teams.
- Ensure clear communication across all site stakeholders.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain records of pile logs, test reports, and inspection records.
- Ensure documentation of shoring installation and excavation stages.
- Support QA/QC and handover documentation.
- Ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 3–10+ years of experience in piling, shoring, or foundation engineering projects.
- Experience in infrastructure, high-rise buildings, bridges, or EPC projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical and structural engineering principles.
