Job Description: Accountant – Accounts Payable
Job Summary
The Accountant – Accounts Payable is responsible for managing the organization's accounts payable process, ensuring that supplier invoices are accurately verified, recorded, and paid in a timely manner. The role supports the company's financial operations by maintaining accurate records, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and fostering positive relationships with vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process supplier invoices for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate approvals.
- Match invoices with purchase orders, goods received notes (GRNs), and supporting documentation.
- Record accounts payable transactions accurately in the accounting system.
- Prepare payment schedules and process payments through bank transfers, checks, or other approved methods.
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve discrepancies with vendors and internal departments.
- Maintain accurate vendor master data and ensure all records are up to date.
- Monitor outstanding payables and ensure payments are made within agreed credit terms.
- Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and account reconciliations.
- Prepare accounts payable reports, aging analyses, and other financial reports as required.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, tax regulations, and internal controls.
- Respond promptly to vendor inquiries and maintain professional supplier relationships.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and explanations.
- Assist with process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen financial controls.
- Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in accounts payable or general accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable processes.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms is an advantage.
- Knowledge of applicable tax regulations and invoice compliance requirements.
