Job Description: Accountant
Job Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing the organization's financial records, ensuring accurate accounting transactions, preparing financial reports, and maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and company policies. This role supports budgeting, financial analysis, audits, and overall financial operations to ensure the financial health of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and maintain accurate financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Prepare and process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Reconcile bank statements, general ledger accounts, and other financial records.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Process payroll and ensure timely salary payments where applicable.
- Prepare tax returns, VAT/GST filings, and other statutory reports in compliance with local regulations.
- Monitor expenses and ensure proper documentation and authorization of financial transactions.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing required documentation and schedules.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and financial regulations.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
- Liaise with banks, auditors, tax authorities, and other external stakeholders as required.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and company records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of experience in accounting or finance.
- Professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA, CA, or equivalent) is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and taxation.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Tally, Zoho Books, or similar).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
