Concrete Restoration Civil Engineer
Job Summary
We are looking for a technically competent Concrete Restoration Civil Engineer to supervise and coordinate concrete repair, rehabilitation, and restoration works. The role involves site inspections, assessment of concrete defects, preparation and implementation of repair methodologies, quality control, material coordination, and supervision of restoration activities. The engineer will ensure all works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project requirements, and applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
Concrete Inspection & Assessment
- Conduct site inspections to identify concrete deterioration, cracks, spalling, corrosion, honeycombing, leakage, and other structural defects.
- Assess the condition of concrete and reinforcement and identify possible causes of deterioration.
- Assist with concrete condition surveys and structural assessments.
- Record defects through inspection reports, photographs, measurements, and technical documentation.
- Assist senior engineers/consultants in determining appropriate repair solutions.
Concrete Restoration & Repair
- Supervise concrete repair and restoration activities at project sites.
- Ensure proper execution of:
- Concrete breaking/removal and surface preparation
- Reinforcement cleaning and corrosion treatment
- Rebar replacement and strengthening
- Crack repair and epoxy injection
- Repair mortar and micro-concrete applications
- Grouting and anchoring
- Concrete jacketing and structural strengthening
- Waterproofing and protective coating works
- Ensure repair materials are mixed, applied, cured, and tested according to approved procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
- Monitor repair work to ensure proper bonding, finishing, curing, and protection.
- Coordinate with specialist subcontractors and applicators.
Site Supervision
- Plan and supervise daily restoration activities.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, and work sequences.
- Monitor productivity and ensure works are completed according to the project schedule.
- Resolve routine technical and site-related issues.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, consultants, subcontractors, and other site teams.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and safe working conditions at the work area.
Quality Control
- Implement quality-control procedures for concrete restoration works.
- Inspect materials before use and verify relevant test certificates and technical data.
- Conduct or coordinate required tests such as pull-off tests, concrete strength tests, carbonation/chloride testing, and other relevant inspections.
- Prepare inspection requests, checklists, method statements, and quality records.
- Identify defective work and coordinate corrective actions.
- Minimize rework and ensure restoration works meet specified quality standards.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily and weekly site progress reports.
- Maintain records of quantities completed, manpower, materials, equipment, inspections, and testing.
- Assist in preparing BOQs, quantity measurements, material requests, and work estimates.
- Maintain photographic records of before, during, and after restoration works.
- Assist in preparing technical reports and project documentation.
- Provide regular progress updates to the Project Manager/Senior Engineer.
Health & Safety
- Ensure all restoration works comply with project HSE requirements.
- Identify hazards related to concrete breaking, cutting, chemicals, scaffolding, work at height, and structural repair activities.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE and follow approved safe-work procedures.
- Participate in toolbox talks, site inspections, and safety meetings.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 3–7 years of relevant experience in civil construction, concrete repair, structural rehabilitation, or restoration works.
- Practical experience in reinforced concrete repair and restoration is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of concrete repair materials, epoxy systems, repair mortars, grouts, waterproofing, and protective coatings.
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and technical specifications.
- Good understanding of construction methods and quality-control procedures.
- Strong site supervision and coordination skills.
- Good communication, reporting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD is preferred.
- Willingness to work at project sites and travel as required.
