QUANTITY SURVEYOR (MECHANICAL)

Job Summary:
We are looking for a seasoned Mechanical Quantity Surveyor to provide full commercial and contractual management for all mechanical disciplines (piping, vessels, rotating equipment, etc.) within a fast-paced shutdown environment. The candidate will ensure accurate cost control, valuation, and financial reporting from pre-shutdown preparation through to final account.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare pre-shutdown cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts for all mechanical works.
- Perform detailed measurement and quantity take-off from isometric drawings, P&IDs, and work packs.
- Prepare and evaluate tender documents, contract packages, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for mechanical subcontractors.
- Administer subcontracts, including processing interim payment certificates, variations (change orders), and claims.
- Conduct site measurements and valuations of work-in-progress for progress payment applications.
- Liaise closely with mechanical construction supervisors and planners to track progress and validate earned value.
- Utilize the SAP PM module to review work order costs, material consumption, and labor hours for financial reporting.
- Prepare cost reports, variance analysis, and risk assessments for management.
- Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors to achieve commercial closure of orders and contracts.
- Prepare and agree on final accounts, ensuring all back-charges and contra-charges are resolved.
Mandatory Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years as a Quantity Surveyor, with a strong preference for a mechanical trade background (e.g., fitter, welder) before moving into QS. Must have extensive experience in Petrochemical/Oil & Gas shutdowns.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong TA Planning Experience: Understanding of shutdown work processes, sequencing, and productivity norms for mechanical trades.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite: Advanced Excel skills are essential.
- Hands-on experience with SAP PM Module: Crucial for cost tracking against work orders and material management.
- Deep knowledge of mechanical construction methods, materials, and relevant measurement standards (e.g., POMI, CESMM).
- Personal Attributes: Commercially astute, strong negotiator, able to work independently under tight deadlines, with excellent numerical and analytical skills.
