Mechanical Inspector
Location: Doha, Qatar
Project Type: Major Infrastructure, High-Rise Buildings, Mixed-Use Developments, or Stadiums (as applicable)
Reporting To: Senior MEP Inspector / Construction Manager
Job Purpose:
To oversee and inspect all mechanical installation works, ensuring they are executed to the highest standards of quality, safety, and performance in accordance with project specifications, Qatari codes, and international standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect and approve all mechanical materials and equipment (pumps, chillers, AHUs, pipes, fittings, insulation) upon delivery.
- Conduct rigorous inspections of HVAC system installation: ductwork (SMACNA standards), chillers, cooling towers, pumps, air handling units (AHUs), FCUs, and piping systems (chilled water, condenser water).
- Oversee installation of plumbing, drainage, and firefighting systems (wet & dry), including pumps, tanks, pipes, and fixtures, ensuring compliance with local civil defense regulations.
- Witness pressure tests, flow tests, balancing of HVAC systems, and other commissioning activities for mechanical systems.
- Inspect fuel gas piping systems, medical gas systems (if applicable), and other specialty mechanical installations.
- Ensure proper thermal insulation and cladding of all mechanical services.
- Issue detailed inspection reports, NCRs for defective work, and ensure timely closure of snags.
- Review and approve Method Statements, ITPs, and shop drawings for mechanical works.
- Coordinate closely with electrical and architectural teams to ensure proper spatial coordination and integration of MEP services.
- Maintain comprehensive as-built records and inspection documentation.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mechanical/HVAC inspection on major building projects, with direct experience in Qatar or the GCC.
- QCDD (Civil Defense) and Ashghal approval experience for relevant systems (firefighting, plumbing, drainage) is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of international mechanical codes (ASHRAE, IPC, NFPA, SMACNA) and local Qatari regulations.
- Proficiency in reviewing mechanical drawings, schematics, and coordination drawings.
- Fluency in English. Knowledge of Arabic is beneficial.
