Optometrist
Job Title: Optometrist - Abu Dhabi
Department: Ophthalmology / Optical Services
Reports To: Head of Ophthalmology / Clinic Manager
Job Overview:
An Optometrist is a primary healthcare professional who provides comprehensive eye and vision care. They conduct eye exams to detect vision problems, diagnose diseases (like glaucoma and cataracts), and prescribe corrective lenses or vision therapy. They do not perform surgery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations using advanced diagnostic instruments.
- Diagnose vision problems (e.g., nearsightedness, astigmatism) and eye diseases/disorders.
- Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, low-vision aids, and medications for certain eye conditions.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery.
- Analyze test results and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Educate patients on eye health, hygiene, and safety.
- Fit and adjust eyeglasses and contact lenses, ensuring patient comfort and satisfaction.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other physicians for co-management of systemic diseases affecting the eyes (e.g., diabetes).
- Maintain detailed and confidential patient records.
- Manage optical shop inventory and advise on lens/frame selections if applicable.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid DHA/DoH/HAAD license to practice as an Optometrist.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience preferred.
- Strong diagnostic skills, interpersonal abilities, and business acumen in a clinical setting.
- Proficiency in English and Arabic is highly advantageous.
