Network Operation Technician – 6 Roles
Position Overview:
Network Operation Technicians (NOC Technicians) are responsible for the 24/7 monitoring, first-line support, and maintenance of the organization’s network and telecommunications infrastructure. They ensure network availability, performance, and security.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security using NOC tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Cisco Prime, etc.).
- Respond to network alerts and incidents; perform initial troubleshooting and escalate as necessary.
- Execute routine network changes, updates, and maintenance during approved windows.
- Document all incidents, changes, and network configurations in ticketing systems.
- Assist in the implementation and configuration of network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers).
- Support VPN, VoIP, and video conferencing systems.
- Follow strict security protocols and change management procedures.
- Communicate network status and incidents to stakeholders and IT management.
- Participate in a shift-based schedule to provide 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or certification in Networking (CCNA, CompTIA Network+ strongly preferred).
- 1-3 years of experience in a NOC or network support role.
- Foundational knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless technologies.
- Experience with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
- Basic scripting knowledge (Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures under pressure.
